Blog post Prevention Act (PrävG)

The Prevention Act creates a comprehensive legal framework that makes prevention and health promotion a central concern of health policy. The aim is to prevent the development of diseases and promote the health literacy of the population. To this end, cooperation between those involved in prevention and health promotion will also be strengthened.
Important elements of the Prevention Act include, for example, improving prevention and health promotion in non-work environments such as daycare centers, schools, neighborhoods and nursing homes. More support is to be given to workplace health promotion and the design of cross-classroom programs.

The health insurance funds are to spend a total of  7 euros per insured person each year on health promotion, with at least  2 euros for workplace health promotion and at least 2 euros for health promotion in living environments.

The Prevention Act represents significant progress towards a health-oriented society. It forms the basis for a culture of prevention that is geared towards the well-being and health of all people. However, in order to implement the law, commitment and cooperation from all those involved in the healthcare system are still required.
