Ultrafast Chiral Structure-Property Relations in the Electronic State Dynamics of N-Heteropolycycles

Prof. Deschler – PCI, Uni HD

Project Description

This project investigates chiral N‑heteropolycycles, such as helicenes, triphenylamines, truxene‑based monkey‑saddles, azaperopyrenedioxides in collaboration with Gade, Mastalerz and Kivala. Inserting nitrogen atoms into the molecular structure modulates electronic wavefunctions, enhances electron transfer and localization while preserving chirality. We study these materials with ultrafast spectroscopy for systematic investigations of chiral structure‑property relationships in their excited states.

We probe ultrafast optical activity, photo‑induced ring currents, and asymmetric transport of photo‑excited populations using time‑resolved circularly‑polarized photoluminescence, transient absorption, and Faraday‑rotation microscopy. Our work aims to advance circularly‑polarized luminescence, control of electronic angular momentum, and chirality‑selective spin transport in N-heteropolycycles.
