The Role of Disorder on Coherent Excited State Transport in N-Heteropolycycles

Julia A. Gessner – PCI, UHD

Project Description

Project B10 investigates exciton and charge-carrier transport in N-heteropolycycle thin films using a novel ultrafast holographic microscopy technique with few-femtosecond time resolution. Ultrafast measurements capture coherent, ballistic transport on femtosecond timescales, while picosecond dynamics reveal the mechanisms governing incoherent transport. The focus is on nitrogen-containing organic semiconductors and their interfaces with acceptors (N-HTA/TCNQ, FYTCNQ) and metals (TAPP/Au), which are relevant for possible applications in thin-film transistors. Key objectives include measuring photoinduced ballistic transport of excitons and charge carriers, determining the influence of molecular packing and interfacial charge injection, identifying the mechanisms responsible for coherence loss and establishing clear structure-transport relationships in functional organic semiconductors.
